Aligarh, February 2: Roopak Varshney and Umer Mujtaba, research scholars from the Department of Civil Engineering, Zakir Hussain College of Engineering and Technology, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) received best-paper-awards in conferences held in Goa and Haryana.
Varshney received the award for presenting a research paper on ‘Solar driven disinfection of National wetlands effluent for reclamation of Wastewater in rural areas’ at 6th World Conference on Applied Science, Engineering and Technology in Goa.
While Mujtaba received the award for his paper on ‘French Type Constructed Wetlands—A sustainable Technology for Municipal Wastewater Treatment Under Indian Conditions’ at the National Conference on Climate Change and Sustainable Clean Environment, Central University of Haryana, Mahendergarh. Mujtaba co-authored the paper with Prof Nadeem Khalil (Environmental Engineering, AMU), Alenka M Zalaznik, Juan A A Rodriguez, Paseal Molie and Carlos A Arias.
The award winning papers by Varshney and Mujtaba are in line with a major research and developmental work in AMU under the Indo-European Collaborative Programme, ‘SWINGS’. This programme, which has been accomplished in the investigatorship of Prof Nadeem Khalil addressed issues related to water resources and treatment of municipal wastewater using cost-effective and sustainable technologies comprising constructed wetlands and solar driven disinfection systems.
