Aligarh, January 28: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Vice Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor inaugurated the Tissue Culture Lab in the Department of Bio-Chemistry, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).
On the occasion, Prof Mansoor said since educational institutions are known and ranked for their research activities, this lab will make way for further improvements in the quality of research in the Department of Bio-Chemistry.
He added that bio-chemistry is a basic science, which needs extra emphasis on research, and a functional Tissue Culture Lab in the department will not only improve the research produced in JNMC but it will also be beneficial for patients.
Prof Mansoor urged teachers to bring new projects to further elevate standards for the benefit of the department and JNMC.
Prof S C Sharma (Dean, Faculty of Medicine and Principal, JNMC) said that the presence of a bio-chemistry department for any medical institution is of paramount importance as it improves clinical information on oncology.
Prof Moinuddin (Chairperson, Department of Bio-Chemistry) pointed out that the Tissue Culture Lab will help in the study of the biology of cells from multicellular organisms and it will be very helpful in training the post-graduate students and research scholars of the Faculty of Medicine. He informed that the Department of Bio-Chemistry has so far produced 130 Phds, 46 MDs and four Mphil students besides having publications of over 500 papers in journals of national and international repute. “The department also has to its credit ICMR, UGC, UPCST, DST, DAE, DRDO and CSIR funded projects,” he said.
